A quieter, cheaper alternative to Boulders, and a lovely stop on the scenic R44 coastal drive, about 1.5 hours from town. A boardwalk winds through the colony so you can watch the penguins up close without disturbing them, and you'll often spot dassies too. It's the third-largest African penguin colony in the world. You can see penguins for free from near the car park, but the boardwalk is worth the small fee. There's a community restaurant by the car park, plus loos. It's cashless, so bring a card.
CapeNature publishes the gate hours as 8–4:30pm, not 5pm, and the reserve office number as 087 087 3001.
